Description

This book examines social psychology in the workplace. It considers interpersonal dynamics affecting communication and performance that can potentially lead to stress and anxiety, and in more serious cases leading to depression and impeding performance and promotion. The book provides vignettes as case studies of workplace scenarios that could affect human experiences and progression in an institutional setting.

Research is presented from a social psychology perspective that is informed by evolutionary theory. It also draws on in-/out-group theory, developed through workplace interactions and hierarchical rankings established by positionality. Ultimately, power is a key concept influencing workplace interactions and outcomes, including the need for promotion and merit. What results is competitiveness that can obstruct teamwork and team-building.
